As the Standard Job Controller itself does not itself contain a persistence layer providing the facility to permanently store artifacts of the job execution, the batch repository is used to provide this functionality.

In the enterprise environment especially, the batch repository forms an important additional part of the management environment, as important functions for the management of the job-parameters and the traceability and analysis of batch runs are made available by it.

Because the batch repository is based on the bmap4j framework, batch programs that were developed with the aid of the bmap4j framework can be run with the repository unchanged, although additional definitions need to be provided in the repository.
